Recreation Resources
The Western Washington University Outdoor Center has many resources for students to use. Drop on by! Check out our extensive case filled with books of various outdoor activities, or our magazine rack, with subscriptions ranging from "Rock and Ice" to "Sea Kayaker".
We also have a number of local references. If you want to go on a hike this Saturday, come on down, check our "big book", ask any of the staff, or look through any of the local "100 hikes" books or any of our local hiking magazines.
Our Resources
Videos
We have many outdoor videos: Telemarking, Kayaking, Moutain Biking, Alpine Skiing. To check these out, you are just going to have to get off yer butt, and come on down to VU150. Or if you're too lazy, see a list of our videos.
Books
The Outdoor Center has a library of reference books on subjects from mountaineering to outdoor leadership. Books can be checked out for 48 hours with a Western card or a $10.00 deposit. See a list of our books.
Maps
The Outdoor Center provides a full library of Green Trails maps plus U.S. and Canada topo maps to plan trips. Green Trail maps of Washington are for sale for $3.25.
Magazines
Over twenty current issues are available to read in the Outdoor Center. Back issues can be checked out for 72 hours.
Slideshows
Learn from those who have experience. Information, adventures, and environmental issues are presented in an informal setting.
Lunch and Lounge
Bring your own snack or coffee to the Outdoor Center's Resource Area. Relax, share your plans and experiences, watch one of our videos, and meet other outdoor enthusiasts.
